Podcast interview! Cool!

Cool!

Congratulations!

How much fun!

We finished Muffin Man's run at The Actors' Playhouse today, and it was a really funny performance. I'm so proud that we came this far. To be a part of the Encore Series is a huge honor.

Muffin Man is an adorable show. It's fun to watch the main character Lyla struggle to find the courage to finally speak from her heart, and it's heartening to watch human interaction at its most positive. We all have a "Muffin Man," (That one exulted person who we have loved for years) and it's exciting to watch someone finally confront hers. High School is a tumultuous time for everyone. Every decision (from the type of drink you should buy to the way you should talk to the boy or girl you like) is incredibly important. It's funny watching Lyla angst over what seems mundane to the rest of us. We've all been there, although some of us have forgotten what it's like. She has drifted apart from her Muffin Man because "he's a year older." It's so ridiculous, but that's how one thinks at that age. I'm not too far away from it myself, so I still know what it's like.

My goal is to make people happy. I believe strongly in the value of the silly. In this world filled with so much sadness, the challenge for me is finding the humor in life and bringing it to the stage. I love high energy, musically rich musicals with the kind of music that people sing and whistle when they are happy. I want to spend my life writing music that makes people smile, not just because they are laughing at a joke, but because they are genuinely happy for the characters I have created. This is my challenge: to create characters close enough to reality that the audience can watch the show and leave knowing that they too can be as happy. It’s not “escapism” because happiness is reality, and even if it may not the reality at the moment, happiness is always a possibility. Sometimes people need to be reminded of this, and Muffin Man seems to do the trick. As the character Sadie says in Muffin Man, "Seize the day! Diem Carpe!"

Two more great reviews!

We had a wonderful last show on Thursday. The cast was hilarious and the music sounded beautiful.

We sold out again and there were quite a few people who stuck around for the talk back. I had a great time.

Check out some more reviews!

This first one is by a high school student who attended the show on Thursday. Considering I'm writing for her demographic, I'm thrilled to see I've hit a chord with her:

The second was a really nice review by my second cousin Tedda Howard who drove up from Aiken, South Carolina to see my show:

I'm hoping to hear some news soon to see if we might be able to have a couple more shows!

Pianist

We would love to welcome Markus Hauck to our show!

His mad piano skills are going to make these songs soar!

Markus Hauck recently returned from the second national tour of Irving Berlin's "I Love A Piano." Originally trained as a classical pianist in Germany, he studied jazz on a scholarship at Berklee College of Music and earned a Master's Degree at the Boston Conservatory. He has also lived in France and Spain, figured out the meaning of life, played keyboards in a rock group while dressed in a neon pink jumpsuit, co-founded an opera company, and published two CDs featuring his own compositions for solo piano. www.markushauck.com

Synopsis

A whimsical musical about a barista in love with the Muffin Man. Goofy customers, over-enthusiastic parents and best friends are all in a days work for Lyla. Can she tell the Muffin Man how she feels? A part of The New York International Fringe Festival, Muffin Man will leave a smile on your face.
